Jan 13: Data for Good Vancouver Datathon in Support of Vancouver Overdose Prevention Society
Lend your talents and skills to a life-saving effort tackling British Columbia’s most pressing public health crisis. Data for Good Vancouver is holding its inaugural datathon in support of the Vancouver Overdose Prevention Society (https://vancityoverdoseprevention.com/). The Society is doing amazing, life-saving work (http://bc.ctvnews.ca/overdose-prevention-volunteers-honoured-at-vancouver-commendation-ceremony-1.3663271) in support of British Columbia’s substance using community by administering harm reduction and support services in the midst of an unprecedented overdose crisis that has killed 978 people in 2016. This year, the death toll is expected to climb to 1,500.
Data for Good will be assisting the Society by analyzing two data sets related to visit volume and substance usage at the overdose prevention site at East Hastings near Columbia (the "Trailer"). Volunteers will be analyzing the data for patterns and trends that will be published into a background document/white paper provided to the Overdose Prevention Society and other stakeholders for the purposes of advocacy.
Please note:
(1) All volunteers and attendees will be asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
(2) Please bring your own laptops
