Data for Good Ottawa | April Meetup
Details
====================================================================
7:00PM to 7:05PM - Meeting Open, Networking
7:05PM to 7:10PM - Call for Volunteers: Data for Good Pipeline Initiative
We will revisit the list of charities and non-profits that has been prepared, and the outreach efforts that we will need your help to undertake.
7:10PM to 7:25PM - Project Updates: Operation Come Home and Ottawa Food Bank
Mike Baggott will lead a review of two consulting projects we are involved in, including what areas we might need more assistance with.
7:25PM to 7:30PM - Call for Volunteers: Concept Project with the Ottawa Food Bank
We are looking for volunteers that might have experience with either phonetic name disambiguation (i.e. Metaphone), or with Dynamic SQL. This would be part of our ongoing engagement with OFB.
7:30PM to 8:00PM - Valhallr: An R Interface to the Valhalla Routing Engine
Christopher Belanger, PhD, will walk us through how to use his brand new R package, valhallr. Valhalla is a fast and effective, open-source routing engine that can give detailed walking, cycling, and driving directions using road information from OpenStreetMaps. If you’ve ever used Google Maps to figure out how to get from A to B, Valhalla is just like that except you can download it and run it on your own computer. If you want to take your geospatial analyses to the next level, you are not going to want to miss this session!
8:00PM to 8:30PM - Boys and Girls Club, One Year Later
Adam Joiner, CEO at Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, will be joining to discuss how BGCO has leveraged Data for Good Ottawa’s report over the course of the past year. He’ll talk about how it has aided BGCO from a strategic planning perspective, and how it has played a role in securing funding for future projects.
8:30 - Meeting Close
