What we're about
Please note: We meet bi-weekly Fridays at 2:30 pm*, in the DeKalb area.
DeKalb Area Creative Writers (DACW) is a group of friendly adults who are serious about writing.
We welcome new members who want helpful readings and feedback of their work-in progress and can commit to offering the same for fellow members. We welcome any creative genres (poetry, memoir, fiction, creative non-fiction, screenwriting, etc.). Our goal is to create a positive, encouraging, honest, and fun atmosphere that is consistent enough to build trust. To that end active participation is expected.
The way we work: We post work for review by midnight the Tuesday before each meeting. Members read the posted work and arrive on Friday ready to offer thoughtful feedback and to receive the same.
To join, ask yourself:
-Does our meeting time work for you? (Fridays, 2:30-4:30)
-Do you have the time to commit to reading others' work before each meeting?
-Can you attend regularly and RSVP either way?
(You are encouraged, but not required, to post your own work each meeting.)
If you’re ready to join, just sign up and fill out the profile questions. An organizer will contact and invite you to attend the first meeting as a guest. Be sure to check your email for an invitation, via Meetup, from the organizers. If at the end of the meeting you still want to join, you're in--we'll give you access to the Meetup site and the Google Group where we share our work.
Please check your email inbox for the invitation to the next meeting. You will get a notification from Meetup, which will appear in your email inbox. Your request to join will remain "pending" until you attend the first meeting. This ensures that our membership list is composed of active members, not virtual "ghost" members.
*Sorry, Saturday Workshops are open for those who attend Friday Meetups only.
