What we're about

The Deep River Rover Crew is currently designed for adults living in the Central Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina (though others outside this area are welcome, especially to our online events!) who are interested in practicing Traditional Scouting, based on the ideals and adventures suggested by Scouting's founder Robert Baden-Powell in his books "Scouting for Boys "and "Rovering to Success," and updated throughout his lifetime until his passing in 1941. Our mission is to provide great fellowship, exciting outdoor adventures, and meaningful service projects for those who are seeking to commit themselves to a higher purpose in life. The Crew is supported by a parent organization called Rovering 4 Life International, which is affiliated with the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS) as a Prospective Member Chapter of the International Scout Fellowship (ISF). The Crew respects Baden-Powell’s original emphasis on Scoutcraft (woodcraft knowledge and skills required by people seeking to venture into wild country and sustain themselves independently), service, and international fellowship and adventure in the outdoors. Meetings are held in the “open air” of the outdoors, in and around the Piedmont Environment Center in High Point, NC, and the adjoining Jamestown Park & Golf Course in Jamestown. Adventures in the outdoors, fellowship, meetings, and service to the community are planned by Crew members in consensus. Learn more at http://www.phoenixway.net/deepriverrovers.

The founding Rover Scout Leader is Ken Pataky. Ken has many years of experience in Scouting and outdoor adventures (a former Eagle Scout & current Commissioner & Venturing Advisor), as well as in educating and counseling/coaching, and is excited to facilitate the Deep River Rovers here in the Triad. He operates the PhoenixWay to Holistic Health as a Holistic Psychotherapist and Transformational Life & Health Coach (learn more at www.phoenixway.net). He can be reached at krpataky@gmail.com.
