Traditional Drumming Class
with the great djembefola (drum master) Sayon Camara. Sayon will take us on a rhythmical journey to his beautiful home country Guinea and connect to some very old rituals and traditions of the Malinke tribe.
In this unique class we will experience and learn to play the music of a culture that has existed for thousands of years in a small village at the heart of Guinea. Together, we will explore rhythms, songs and stories from Sayon's homeland.
All skill levels are welcome! This music will be made accessible to all in this class regardless of experience and ability. Those with prior experience will find challenge if they desire it!
Sayon Camara is an exemplary djembe player, musician, performer and teacher. Operating with boundless joy and humility, as well as a deep respect for the rhythms he stewards, he has an intimate knowledge of the traditional music of his people, of Guinea, West Africa, delivering with an impeccable sense of time, a sound on the djembe that is as clear as a bell.
Time: 630-830pm (two hours with a short break)
Early bird: $25 until Monday September 19th. After that $35
SLC residents free. Need to pre-book if djembe rental required.
Djembe rental : $5
Pre-registration mandatory to be guaranteed a drum.
