Our goal is to foster friendship among writers via casual "small-group" conversation about the writing craft, the publishing trade, and all things literary.
Things to know before requesting membership:
Since ours are small group gatherings, it is required that members RSVP for events they will attend and that they cancel within 1 hour of the event if their plans change. No-shows and people who regularly cancel on the day of the event will be removed from the group.
Writers from all geographical areas are welcome. The group is called Del Mar Writers because we only meet in Del Mar or in the immediate vicinity. We gather--mostly in groups of 8 or fewer--once or twice a month for a weekday coffee during the late-morning or early-afternoon. A few times a year we also gather on weekends and/or for lunch, happy hour, or dinner.
Attendees at events are each responsible for their own charges. Please note that we do ask for separate checks when seated at a table attended by waitstaff, however sometimes the restaurant will not provide them for one party. Therefore, everyone should plan on paying in cash for their own portion of fare, tax, and tip. And please, plan on purchasing even a little something since it is through the sales of food and beverages that the people who work at the establishments we frequent earn their living....
Please note that in order to more easily identify one another at the meetings, we require that on our meetup page you post your first name, a brief introduction, and a photo that clearly shows your face.
Separately convened but not posted on the website is a 5-person, atypical gathering for writers who are in a productive rather than aspirational stage of their writing careers and who can commit to regular attendance. Members of this group have compatible literary goals, skills, styles, and philosophies about the value and function of a group.
If interested, please speak with the organizer after one of the posted events.
