What we're about

ODSC brings together the open-source and data science communities with the goal of helping its members learn, connect and grow.

The focus of this Meetup group is to allow ODSC to work with Meetup groups, non-profits, and other organizations to present informative lectures, workshops, code sprints and networking events to help grow the use of open source languages and tools within the data science and data-centric community. As such, our specific goals are:

1. Build a collaborative group to work with other Meetup groups, non-profits, and other organizations.

2. Promote the use of open source languages and tools amongst data scientists and others.

3. Host educational workshops.

4. Spread awareness of new open source languages and tools that can be used in data science.

5. Contribute back to the open-source community.

Who is this meetup for?

• Data engineers, analysts, scientists, and other practitioners

• R, Python and other software engineers who work with data or want to learn

• Data visualization developers and designers

• Non-technical team leads, executives, and other decision-makers from data-centric startups and large companies looking to utilize open-source tools

Automating human tasks using NLP: Table of Contents gen for PDF research reports

To access this webinar, please register here: https://aiplus.odsc.com/courses/automating-human-tasks-using-nlp-table-of-contents-generation-for-pdf-research-reports Topic: Automating human tasks using NLP: Table of Contents generation for PDF research reports Speaker#1: Jia Hui Chow, Data Scientist at Refinitiv https://www.linkedin.com/in/chowjiahui/ Currently a data scientist at Refinitiv, Jia Hui gained experience on NLP tasks like named entity recognition and relation extraction for both English and Chinese. She built a deep learning model released in an existing product, Eikon, and has also released a relation extraction model for a risk intelligence tool. Speaker#2: Melvin Perera, Data Scientist at Refinitiv https://www.linkedin.com/in/melvinperera/ Currently a Data Scientist at Refinitiv, Melvin works to enhance and improve Refinitiv’s existing product offerings (TRIT, Eikon, World-Check) for Information Retrieval in the Asian markets using Natural Language Processing. He is currently working on Named Entity Recognition techniques to improve quality of News Document Tagging in Chinese. Abstract: Natural language processing (NLP) has seen significant advances in the recent past, and is now being used for various tasks that once required a lot of human involvement. In this seminar, we will share our journey by applying NLP techniques to a robotic process automation problem. In particular, we share our challenges automating the extraction of the Table of Contents from PDF research reports, a task which becomes challenging due to the heterogeneity of report formats, and many arbitrary constraints designed for humans to handle. Using a combination of approaches from transfer learning with a Single Shot Detector model to rules, we highlight situations where such a hybrid approach might prove useful. We will also cover how to break down and scope a complex set of data science requirements, and common pitfalls handling a dynamic set of requirements that were originally tailored for human operators. Webinar: "Applications of Deep Learning in self-driving cars"

To access this webinar, please register here: https://aiplus.odsc.com/courses/applications-of-deep-learning-in-self-driving-cars Topic: Applications of Deep Learning in self-driving cars Speaker: Birupakshya Mahapatra, ML Engineer at Lenskart.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/veerbmahapatra/ Birupakshya Mahapatra (aka Veer) is a Machine Learning engineer who has worked on multiple projects which include Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, NLP, Predictive Modelling. He is a very passionate individual who works as a mentor, ML consultant, and an AI evangelist in the industry. He has worked on applying various deep learning techniques in a self-driving car. From being a business consultant to becoming a Lead in Machine Learning he had worked in diversified roles and currently, he is associated with a start-up working on bringing AI to help humanity. Abstract: In the last decade, deep learning has seen many innovations in terms of better neural network architectures, optimized hardware such as GPUs, TPUs which has made it possible to apply it in real-time applications that require low latency. This has indeed made the dream of self-driving cars or autonomous vehicles possible. Driving a car requires human-level intelligence which can be simulated using deep learning-based software. The applications include real-time Object recognition, Lane detection, Depth perception, 3D world mapping, Scene Understanding, Free space detection, etc which we will discuss in detail. Why attend and Learning outcomes 1. Understand the relevant skills required getting a job in the autonomous sector 2. Will help the participants get started with the development process 3. Hiring the right candidates with the right skills for your company 4. Consultancy on the autonomous services 5. Understand the role of Deep Learning in autonomous sectors 6.
