Description: Bhakti Yoga is working with the heart channel—love, acceptance, surrender into something greater. One of the practices that amplify the Heart channel is Kirtan, the yoga practice of ecstatic chanting. Kirtan opens the heart and stills the mind. Through the repetitive singing of mantras, the mind is cleared of worry, doubt, fear, and all limiting concepts. Peace and infinite love are given to participants and transmitted through the world by vibration.
In community kirtan, there is no one leader, no single kirtan Wallah. All who attend are welcome and encouraged to suggest and/or lead a chant. While kirtans traditionally consist of chanting ancient mantras in Sanskrit, the community kirtan format welcomes spiritual songs and mantras from all devotional practices that promote love, healing, peace, and oneness. Attendees are also encouraged to bring and play any instrument of their choosing. We will have a number of hand drums and shakers available for all to use.
No singing, chanting, or musical experience of any kind is needed. You are welcome to participate in your heart’s desire or to sit in silence and simply absorb the vibration… “Kirtan is for all people. There are no experts, no beginners. The practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves. Kirtan allows us to enter into a mystery world—a world where all the logic of our minds, all the condition and learning are left outside. And in this mystery, we create a temple inside of our hearts, a place of refuge, a place of love, a place of just being.” ~Jai Uttal
