What we're about

Mancunians discussing European politics. We're interested in ideas:

- Brexit (get that out of the way)
- Community
- Inequality(tax, income, justice)
- Electoral reform
- Green Sustainability

We discuss all these ideas and issues over a coffee every Sunday at 10:15(ish) at Chapter One in Northern Quarter, Manchester (www.chapteronebooks.co.uk), and every two weeks in the evenings at 7 pm at the Crown & Kettle ( https://www.facebook.com/TheCrownandKettle/ )

Throughout 2019 we are organising a series of events on 'World Building' - discussing and debating ideas to make Europe - and the world- a more democratic and fair place for everyone!

Our next event is about Green New Deal. It's a debate on our Climate Future. More details here: https://www.meetup.com/en-AU/Democracy-in-Europe-Mcr-DIEM25/events/261042507/

Previous events include topics like Universal Basic Income at the Federation in Northern Quarter, Manchester. More details here (https://www.meetup.com/Democracy-in-Europe-Mcr-DIEM25/events/257849363/).

Europe: what happens next? An evening session

An opportunity to leave work, go for a drink a particular topic that is burning at the time. This week we will be debating about immigration: 'Is wanderlust in our blood?' Recently I read Rutger Bregman's take on immigration in 'Utopia for Realists', so I'd like to break down and challenge the following mainstream takes on immigration: 1. 'They're all terrorists' 2. 'They're all criminals' 3. 'They will undermine social cohesion' 4. 'They'll take our jobs' 5. 'Cheap immigrant labour will force our wages down' 6. 'They're too lazy to work' 7. 'They'll never go back' It will be a casual debate, inclusive of all opinions and political persuasions!
