    Thirsty Thursday
Two people take the stage instead of one long talk. This way, we can share a variety of perspectives and make it easier for new speakers to participate.

Thanks to our generous sponsor Worth Works we can now host up to 75 people!

    The Talks

    1. How bad insights from good research can kill your design ideas – Slava Shestopalov
So, you’ve conducted research. Maybe user interviews or prototype testing. Now you have lots of “insights.” Or do you? The thing is, not everything you saw, heard, recorded, or wrote down is an actual insight. Some of it is dangerous to use, yet it hides under the guise of the “user’s voice.” It’s not me, it’s what users said. These aren’t my words; they did it during testing. What makes this even trickier today is the growing presence of GenAI features in UX tools — they can easily add another layer of bias if left unsupervised. In this talk, I’ll share my experience of distilling real UX insights from bias and buzz, inspired by my recent work in the B2B SaaS space — specifically on a software platform for worker safety and sustainability.

Slava Shestopalov is a design manager at Wolters Kluwer, acting as the head of design of the Enablon platform. His work focuses on strategic design, leadership, and connecting the dots across different areas of innovation. Slava also shares his thoughts on his Medium blog.

    2. To becoming a space-faring species, we desperately need better software - Kartik Kumar
Space is hot at the moment.

Whether it's SpaceX launching Starlink satellites every few days, the James Webb Space Telescope beaming back stunning images of the cosmos, or a plethora of companies developing lunar landers and rovers, there's fascinating work being done all across the globe.

And yet space engineers are still stuck with crappy software across the mission lifecycle.

What makes this worse is that most space company websites either look like 1990s Geocities monstrosities or overengineered graphics hellholes. Space needs good software and improving UX is at the heart of the problem set.

In this talk, I'll tell the tale of building better UX for space engineers, the ups and downs, ins and outs, live from the battlefield.

Kartik Kumar is CEO and co-founder at satsearch.com, the largest open, global, B2B marketplace for the space industry. Kartik is an Aerospace Engineer from Delft with a passion for making the space industry more accessible.
