Hi all members,

Now is the time for you or a setup a team that can create a Power BI solution based on Open data that can become the wold champion.

The Power BI Community has created a Global Hackathon event to encourage the worldwide Power BI community to interact, create, innovate, and share Power BI solutions.

The agenda for the day

9:00 Welcome and introduction to the hackathon
9:15 - 10:00 - How can I connect Power BI to Open Data
9:45 - 10:30 - Visualization tips and tricks in Power BI
10:30-15:00 - Hackathon - Work in the teams on creating the best solution
15:00 - 15:45 - Presentation of solutions
15:45 - 16:00 - Picking the winner

Lunch will be served.

Purpose
The “PUG Global Hackathon” will provide our worldwide Power BI community with a fun and competitive opportunity to use the Power BI platform for creatively expressing public data in a meaningful way. The goal is to create Power BI apps that entertain, educate, and inspire people to facilitate positive change through the data stories that are visualized.

Starting with local-level PUG hackathon competitions, winners will be chosen by their local PUG community members. These hackathon winners progress to then a global competition, to be judged by the larger global PUG communities. Ultimately, the world-champion team will be crowned.

Overview
You are herby invited to form hackathon teams with the purpose of creating and submitting a Power BI app for the competition. Teams will compete with others in their respective communities to win top honors and prizes. Participating teams will publish their solutions to a shared tenant to make their apps available to the full community.

The winning team will advance to the global championship.

Rules:
• Team size is unregulated and multi-person, interdisciplinary teams are encouraged
o Must delegate one Team Captain
• Data sets must be from public data sources
• Solutions can be built with either Desktop, Excel, Power BI Service, Embedded, or with any combination of these options

Criteria for Judging:
• Compelling Visual Design
• Innovative Technical Design
• User Engagement (how interesting are the data stories)
• Utility (tangible benefits for users)

• Local Winners

  • Featured on PUG website, in PUG newsletter, blogs, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Winner showcase at next PUG meeting or host virtual collection
  • Local winners will compete to have the chance to win World Tour Registration passes to the World Tour location of their choice.
    • Global Champion
  • Featured on PUG website, in PUG newsletter, blogs, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Registration passes for World Tour location of choice
