SpotX Talk Summary:
SpotX is a video advertising Supply Side Platform that facilitates roughly 20 billion auctions a day in order to keep your video clip viewing free. This means SpotX generates a vast amount of high-velocity data. Druid plays an important role in being able to capture, aggregate, and visualize that data quickly. Patrick will be talking about how the data in Druid can be utilized to create forecasts with low latency. His example will be in Python and use open-source data thus allowing the audience to follow along as well as play with the example code in their own environment afterward.

Bio: Patrick Hofmann is a Senior Data Scientist at SpotX where he optimizes revenue, enhances the infrastructure decision process, and cultivates strategic insights. He has worked with numerous big data technologies, including Hadoop, Hive, and Spark. More recently, he has been supporting the improvements made to SpotX’s forecasting system that utilizes Apache Druid. When he isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 kids, basketball, hiking, skiing, and hunting.

Imply Talk Summary:
Imply is a real-time analytics solution to store, query, and visualize event-driven data. It is built around Apache Druid, a widely-adopted open source real-time analytics database architected to support streaming ingest and sub-second ad-hoc queries at scale. Jon will be talking about various use cases and architectures from companies such as Netflix, Mopub (Twitter), Ebay, Airbnb and more.

Bio: Jon King is a Field Engineer at Imply. Jon has been in big data for 12+ years. He is fluent in Hadoop, Spark, Hive and Presto and Druid. Previously, he’s built and managed data teams at Solifire, NetApp and Ibotta. He’s a 2x O’reilly Author (Operationalizing Data Lakes in the Cloud (2019)) and Contributor (Programming Hive (2012)). Outside of the professional area he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family in the Colorado Mountains.
