Adding authentication to an app in under 60 minutes - Brian Pontarelli
For our October meeting, we have Brian Pontarelli here for a talk on FusionAuth. 6:00-6:30: Networking and Food Food sponsors for this month are Ibotta and Inversoft. 6:30-6:40: Announcements 6:40-8:00: Adding authentication to an app in under 60 minutes Identity is a core component to many applications and managing it in a microservices environment can be challenging. 3rd party cloud solutions might look nice at first, but for developers they can quickly become a nightmare to dev against. Allowing developers to run everything locally and isolate them from other developers, cloud hosting providers and large corporate networks can often make coding much simpler. This talk will use the free identity platform FusionAuth to add identity management as a microservice to a simple application, from scratch, in under 60 minutes. And we’ll run everything from a laptop. We will live code an example app and try to add as many of these features as possible in 60 minutes: Registration Login Role-based authorization Push MFA Forgot password Password constraints Brute-force login detection And user management About Brian Pontarelli Brian Pontarelli is founder and CEO of Inversoft, a Denver-based provider of platform technologies built to help companies manage, moderate and engage their customers. These technologies include FusionAuth, a free, modern identity and user management API that provides login, registration, single sign-on and many other user management features and CleanSpeak, an intelligent profanity filtering and moderation tool. Before Brian bootstrapped Inversoft, he studied computer engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. After graduating, he worked at a variety of companies including Orbitz, BEA, US Freightways, XOR and Texturemedia. Brian has presented at numerous conferences including JavaOne, No Fluff Just Stuff, Denver Startup Week, and others and has been featured on podcasts including Hustle & Deal Flow and Startup CTO. 8:00-whenever: Drinks/Socializing

What we're about

We are a community of like minded software engineers that come together to decouple monolithic and spaghetti architectures. Microservices architecture is enabled by a spectrum of tools categories but is primarily an architectural approach to system design that also requires considerable organizational and cultural adjustment to execute successfully. This meetup is for people interested in architecting, designing, deploying and maintaining microservice based architectures.
