Tarot Bag Knit-A-Long with Joy
Please join us for a tarot bag knit-a-long on Election Night! We can stream the election results on my laptop, and I'll provide an easy, two-hour knitting pattern for a tarot bag. Please RSVP if you're interested so I know how many patterns to bring.
Our bag will knit up quickly using bulky yarn on size 11 (8 mm) double pointed needles. The chevron lace detail adds panache, while on a practical level lets you peek at what deck lies within. A ribbon drawstring is a fast finish, and pretty crow beads dangle for some extra flair. The bag has a tailored shape for a trim look, while the bottom is stitched for strength and security. The finished bag measures 6" from below the drawstring to the bottom, and 4.75" in width, and fits a deck up to about 3.25" x 5.25".
Bags shown: Left, knit in Yarn Bee "Interlocked," color Blush. Right, knit in Yarn Bee "Dream Spun," color Delphinium.
The pattern is easy, but I suggest that people who participate have a basic knowledge of casting on, knit and purl stitches, and binding off. We'll use double-pointed needles to knit our bags. Tarot bags are an easy and fun way to learn how to work with DPNs if you haven't used them before.
• 3.5 oz (76 yds) Yarn Bee "Dream Spun", 80% acrylic/20% Superwash Wool (you can knit two bags from a skein) or similar yarn with a gauge of 12 stitches x 15 rows on US 11 needles = 4" x 4" (I also used Yarn Bee "Interlocked" 75% acrylic, 15% wool, 10% alpaca. Lion Brand Heartland® Thick & Quick® Yarn 100% acrylic should also work.)
• 2/3 yds 1/4” (6 mm) satin ribbon
• 6 crow beads in contrasting colors
• US Size 11 (8.0 mm) DPNs
• Tapestry Needle
• Large-eye needle or beading needle to thread the ribbon through the beads
• Pen and paper for notes
