This will be an opportunity for mature singles 40+ to meet, paddle and maybe establish friendships. We will paddle lakes and rivers depending on your level of skill. I'm a certified SUP instructor and would love to share knowledge for skill development. After that, we just paddle and enjoy nature as a group.
I am setting our first date out to June 1st. By then, we will have warmer water and safer conditions. This is a BYOB (bring your own board) event. We will be at Gray's Lake in Des Moines this first time and they DO have boards for rent. If you have your own board, we will be able to plan river trips after a few meet and greet events. LIFE JACKETS ARE MANDATORY. No lifejacket, you won't paddle with the group. You will also need to sign a waiver. If you want a free lesson, that's one of the reasons I am there for. Anyone can learn to paddleboard, but paddling efficiently and correctly is another story. Being a certified level 3 instructor, I can teach you the basics and then advanced on the river....all for free. The whole point of this group is to have fun, learn skills and of course, meet people.
If you join up, please let me know what brand board and length you will be using. Bring a change of clothes, your swimsuit/trunks, paddle, lifejacket, snacks, water bottle and sunscreen. When we hit summer, bring bug spray if needed. If bringing your camera phone, secure it! I am not responsible for ruined electronics. I will contact you all individually if you are serious about going.
We will paddle at Gray's Lake the first few times, then also include Blue Heron Lake in West Des Moines, Purple Martin Lake in WDM and various central Iowa rivers including the Raccoon River from Walnut Woods to Water Works and the Des Moines River from Sycamore to Captain Roy's at Birdland Marina. After all paddles, feel free to meet up for dinner, snacks and drinks at Confluence or wherever. Seriously, a free lesson? That's a steal! Plus we are getting a workout.
This is for singles over 40 to 60 with around 50 being the sweet spot. We will be looking to meet new friends and establish those into friendships. At the very least, we develop paddling relationships as you should NEVER paddle alone anyway! Remember, paddling is an inherently dangerous activity.
Please message me with any questions. We can always meet up as a group for pizza during winter and talk about plans and paddling in general. We can also combine a paddle with a bike ride after. Possibilities are endless!
