So what is empathy, where does it come from and what can we learn from it? Let’s talk about what it means to be an empathetic being, the effect technology is having on our ability empathise with each other and what we can do to understand each other, communicate and design more ethical ‘things’ that help people be people. Speaker: Jack Sheppard Jack Sheppard is a digital product designer and creative event producer based in Manchester. He’s designed things with organisations like HarperCollins, Virgin, NHS, Universal Music and the Co-op, focussing on making products and services simple for real human beings and encouraging designers to think about the real life implications of the things they design. twitter.com/madebysheppard instagram.com/madebysheppard Talk two: Talk: Designed to Help We all hear about design, designers and agencies, but what is design, and is it really that important? In this talk, Simon will explore what we mean by design, why it is so valuable to business and why you really notice design when it is done badly! Drawing on his 20 years experience in the industry, Simon will talk through his love of creativity, his work as an illustrator and show examples of good and bad design and how it can add real value across all businesses and brands, whether larger or small. Speaker: Simon Harmer As Founder of Marmalade on Toast, he has led an award-winning creative studio to over ten years of success, working with clients such as Harrods, Samsung, Imperial College London and Unilever. He is a published author and illustrator, having been commissioned by Mazda, Tate Galleries, The Guardian and Hugo Boss. As a speaker, Simon focusses on the value of design and creativity. As a creative, he brings his unique, humorous and engaging views to subjects as diverse as Design Thinking, Disruption, Play and Passion. He often appears on expert panels offering a creative insight into our increasingly tech-driven world.
