Talk one: Talking about design with people who aren’t designers

Have you ever received confusing or unhelpful feedback? Ever had trouble defending a design decision or felt like you were asked to go against your better design judgement?

You are not alone! As designers we are constantly collaborating with people from multidisciplinary teams and good communication is vital to a successful project. However, it is not always easy to communicate on teams where everyone comes from a different specialization. In this talk we’ll explore where communication breakdowns can happen, what good feedback looks like, and give you some tools to help you have more productive conversations with your lovely non-designer teammates.

Speaker: Caroline Smith

Talk two: Don’t forget the U in UX: It is all about the user

When users don’t understand the process, when users get upset about the content, when users are searching for something – get involved in how users are really reacting to websites and mobile pages. Ok, fine, we know it is important to get users’ feedback. But how do we get users’ needs into the development processes in our company? You can find different models of UX integration into an organisation: a separate UX team, agile teams with UX roles like designer and researcher, or the Spotify model with squats. Which is the best? What problems for UX could arise in agile teams? I would like to hear your experiences and opinions about this, too. Another method to shift a company more towards user-centred development is the use of Personas. Why should we use them? What should we be aware of? Different examples of Personas are illustrating their value.
