What we're about

Come join the Detrash Portland anti-litter movement! We are a group of people who volunteer to keep Portland a beautiful city by thinking globally and acting locally.

Detrash Portland is now a SOLVE program, an Oregon based non-profit dedicated to keeping the state clean and healthy.

Picking up litter is an easy thing to do for our environment, and we’re also here to show that it can be fun. Join us at different neighborhoods throughout the city. We’ll talk about a game plan, hand out cleanup supplies, and then fan out for about an hour or so, cleaning up the surrounding area. Afterward we’ll meet back at our starting point for a comparison of our haul and to check in with each other. We hope you join us! Many hands make light work.

Urgent Need Cleanup- 96th & SE Division

Needs a location

Join SOLVE for a cleanup in an urgent need area. SOLVE defines an urgent need cleanup as an area with a high concentration of litter that poses a threat to public safety and environmental quality due to the presence of hazardous materials. Safety guidelines will be covered before the event begins.

During this cleanup, you will work with SOLVE staff in small groups to clean up the trash in the area around SE 96th and Division.

Urgent Need Cleanup - Rocky Butte and The Grotto

Needs a location

SOLVE is hosting a trash cleanup event at Rocky Butte Park, home of perhaps the most accessible outdoor rock climbing area in Portland. It’s eccentric and gritty, located in a fairly wild state park at the center of a major metropolitan area. These urban climbing walls have gotten a bit of a reputation for broken glass and other debris and we'd like to change that.

SOLVE defines an urgent need cleanup as an area with a high concentration of litter that poses a threat to public safety and environmental quality. Urgent need cleanups are not family-friendly or suitable for anyone under the age of 18 due to an increased presence of hazardous materials. We will be picking up areas that are potentially adjacent to active encampments. Safety guidelines will be put in place before the cleanup begins. Please come wearing sturdy work boots if you have them.

River and Land Cleanup with Willamette Riverkeeper

Needs a location

Join SOLVE and Willamette Riverkeeper for a cleanup of the Willamette River’s Holgate Channel!

Located just south of the downtown Portland core, the ecologically-important Holgate Channel connects the 160-acre Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and the Ross Island archipelago, providing habitat for native fish and wildlife species like the threatened Chinook Salmon, as well as other species that rely on the area for nesting, including bald eagles and great blue herons.

Spend the day outside and improve the environmental quality of the Holgate Channel! If you are an experienced boater, paddleboarder or kayaker we encourage you to BYOV (bring your own vessel). If you are on foot, we will be picking up trash along the riverbank at Sellwood Riverfront Park.
