Revisiting Dr King's Dream: Economic Equality

Details
In 1967 Dr. Martin Luther King planned to unite poor people from across the nation to demand better jobs, living conditions and education at the Poor People’s Campaign of 1968. The march was never realized nor were the demands fulfilled. Fifty years later the partial government shutdown has made it clear that federal workers are making, as Dr. King called them, “starvation wages” resulting in people financially struggling, living paycheck to paycheck. We are still in need of viable economic opportunities that lead to the ability to save and build wealth.
How can we ensure economic resiliency in times of uncertainty? What systems need to be in place to protect residents from losing access to basic needs? Dr. King was clear that the answer calls for a radical redistribution of economic power. Join EOS Detroit for a discussion about the ways to create economic equality such as universal basic income and the blockchain technology that can help make it a reality.
