DevOps Vancouver Meetup: April 2020

Details

The streets may be quiet but the DevOps community is not! Please join us for our April DevOps Vancouver Meetup via webinar. We have a great line-up of speakers and a diverse range of topics.

Even online, space is limited, so please RSVP soon. Please remember: update your booking if you can’t make it, so others who get waitlisted can attend in your place. PLEASE NOTE: the webinar link will be provided by April 27, to those who have booked a 'seat'.

Here’s the evening’s line-up:

Jay Kulkarni – Building a “World Class” DevOps Team:
In a fast paced DevOps environment, how can a leader not just build a product but also a team which can deliver and perform in a “world class” way? In this presentation, Jay will provide insights and anecdotes from his DevOps journey. Jay is a hands-on servant leader who is passionate about spearheading innovation and breaking silos. He is experienced in many different environments from start-ups to public sector crown corporations. Jay is currently Senior Release Lead and is helping establish Release Management practices at WorkSafeBC.

Willy Schaub – Common Engineering System at WorkSafeBC:
Willy is a Cloud Systems Engineer at WorkSafeBC. Since the mid-‘80s, he has been striving for simplicity and maintainability in software engineering, with a passion to collaborate on DevOps mindset transformation journeys. Willy will continue Melissa O’Brien’s WorkSafeBC Cloud Story (from the March Meetup) and introduce the Common Engineering System (CeS). Based on Azure DevOps, its goal is to empower business and engineering teams to create business value from ideation to production, while standardising on the best available products and processes. Let’s chat about the learnings and challenge of driving a culture change to embrace continuous innovation.

Dmitry Shmulevich - Prometheus: Features and Capabilities:
Prometheus is an open source monitoring and alerting system for cloud applications and microservices. It is the defacto standard for monitoring Kubernetes. In his presentation, Dmitry will cover the main aspects of Prometheus and demonstrate its features and capabilities. Dmitry is a Software Engineer at Sysdig, where he works on integrating Prometheus into Sysdig's Secure DevOps Platform, and extending its functionality. Prior to Sysdig, Dmitry worked at Microsoft on a new version of Azure Kubernetes Services. He is an active member of the open source community and contributes to several open source projects; he often speaks at various Meetups.
