What kind of coder are you? (e.g. Junior/Senior Rubyist /Data Scientist, etc.) -OR- If you represent a social good organization, what is it called and what cause are you working on?

Technologist part: I'm very old school, having programmed in mostly Fortran and C for 5 years professionally. The transition to OOP has been tough. Currently learning about Web2.0 technologies on my own. Would prefer to learn/work with others, as I think it accelerates the learning process and is a lot more productive. Social Mission: The Food and Drug Interactions Project (FDIP.org) aims to create and raise awareness about potential food/med/drug interactions in a way that is useful and timely. Most people don't think about the ways their diet and lifestyle can impact the efficacy of medications, and those who do will rarely think about it when it's relevant... like right before they eat or drink. My goal is to put that idea, and tools for learning more in the forefront of consumers' minds to help improve medication usage compliance and understanding.

Are you currently working on any projects that use technology for social good? If so, please share the website(s) so we can help, too!

I taught myself PHP to create the initial website for FDIP.org and am now looking into Ruby on Rails to see what advantages it offers in terms of versatility and development speed.

Introduction

Hi. I'm a former engineering student who keeps falling back into "IT stuff" because technology is such a great tool. However "technology" moves too fast for me to keep up with on my own.
