What we're about

Listening to traditional stories told by professional storytellers, with linked practice and coaching groups and workshops so that you can develop the skills yourself and participate in Open Mike StoryNights and Story Slams. We hold regular events in Exeter, Sidmouth, Topsham and Totnes and other places across Devon.

Exeter Storyclub Night

Link visible for attendees

Exeter Storyclub is on the first Wednesday of the month (save in exceptional circumstances and sometimes we don't meet in July or August if everyone is away). A supportive gathering to try out new pieces or simply to relax and listen to spoken storytelling at its best.

There is a 15 minute maximum length for stories/music and if anyone goes over that, they will incur the Harmonica of Doom! :) As we love to get everyone’s stories in. Two-parters can be arranged, just let us know! All stories must be from memory - support the oral tradition :) . All welcome.

• What to bring
Yourself, a pair of listening ears and an open imagination.

Plough Storytelling Circle, North Devon

Needs a location

The Plough Storytelling Circle is back! We have a new time - the first Thursday evening of every month - and a new venue - the beautiful St Anne's Chapel in Barnstaple.
We are a lively and supportive forum for the telling of stories, whether those are folk tales, mythology, modern or personal stories, all told in the traditional way - from memory.
We welcome anyone and everyone to tell a tale or just to listen and we also enjoy occasional poetry and music, as long as it is story-based.
So whether you are new to storytelling or have been doing it for years, please come and join us for an evening of wonders. (Incredible value too at £2 including refreshments!)
Book online at www.theploughartscentre.org.uk or by phoning the Box Office on[masked] or on the door.

South Devon Storytellers - October

Needs a location

Welcome back to South Devon Storytellers - an informal gathering for storytellers and story lovers. We will be meeting in our new venue, Birdwood House, just up the road from Pie Street.

This year we are exploring BRITISH FOLK AND FAIRY TALE. For October, Lisa will be telling a rare story about the Green Man.

Travel with Jack, our erstwhile British anti-hero, as he travels through the dark woods on this most British of twisty turny adventures, and gets a little more than he bargained for. Knitting that flies through the woods. A dung beetle with indigestion. A swan with attitude....

After the break, all are welcome to contribute a story (traditional story, 10 minute limit, no notes or prompts). The theme this month, as ever entirely optional, is TREE.

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday!
