We meet the last Sunday of each month from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in private homes in the Seattle area. Members are welcome to arrive as early as 10:30AM for pre-meditation tea and conversation. We meditate for 20 minutes, followed by 90 minutes of dialogue and end with 10 minutes of meditation. Many of the current participants have some experience with meditation practice, which provides a bit of an approach for dialogue as a kind of social meditation.
Sitting helps clear the space, friendship helps it to open up, and the shared expression energizes the unknown, emerging spaces that allow the possibility of a difference that can, perhaps, be shared.
"Suspension of thoughts, impulses, judgments, etc., lies at the very heart of dialogue. It is one of its most important new aspects. It is not easily grasped because the activity is both unfamiliar and subtle. Suspension involves attention, listening and looking and is essential to exploration. Speaking is necessary, of course, for without it there would be little in the dialogue to explore, but the actual process of exploration takes place during listening -- not only to others but to oneself.
