What we're about

This Meetup group serves two purposes: firstly, for returning pilgrims (peregrinos) from Spain to meet-up and exchange stories about their experiences and secondly, for prospective peregrinos who want to set off for the 'Way of St. James' and who seek to be inspired and to have their, no doubt, many questions answered.

The Meetup events will combine social evenings with planned walks in Edinburgh and surrounding areas to prepare for the Camino and enjoy the beautiful Scottish countryside.

This is a non-denominational group and it's open to all regardless of personal belief. Nearly 300,000 pilgrims of all faiths and none walk to Santiago de Compostela every year as part of their own personal journey following the steps of millions of other pilgrims who walked the same route, even before Christianism arrived in Europe. Modern pilgrimage is a cultural phenomenon across the world and this walking meditation helps to bring peace, clarity and connection to self for those who embark on this life-changing journey.

**As a member of this Meetup group, you'll be entitled to a 15% discount from Cotswold Outdoor**

In order to keep the group running on Meetup.com, we ask members to contribute £2 when they attend an event. This helps to fund the group fees that otherwise need to be fully covered by the group organiser.

Join the 'Scottish Pilgrims in the Camino de Santiago' Facebook group to connect with other pilgrims across the world and access Camino news and articles:

Wild Camping - Tyninghame Beach, East Lothian
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

PLEASE NOTE: Dates to be confirmed Do you fancy getting away from it all and heading to East Lothian to enjoy one of its many beautiful beaches? Time out to chill and relax, peace and tranquillity... just a bit of space to think and breathe?! We are checking out what interest there is in organising an overnight camping trip to Tyninghame Beach; where the forest meets the ocean. The camping spot is a hidden gem. A small sheltered area in amongst the pine trees and the beautiful landscape of John Muir Country Park. Places would be limited and car sharing essential as there are very few spaces to park a vehicle when you arrive. Another caveat will be that you can only bring what you can carry as there's a 20/30 min walk through woodland before reaching the site! Fantastic practice for travelling light on your Camino :) This trip would be about the good old-fashioned co-operative spirit of sharing. Each person would contribute something towards the practical needs of the group. Some may wish to bring AND CARRY/WASH the plates, others may have some extremely handy gadgets they would like to show off! Essential: your own tent, sleeping bag etc and a respect for each other's space - camping is wonderful but not if you're trying to sleep while others are just waking up as the moon is full! There are a number of walks in the area. A quick hop, skip and jump over the dunes and your toes can curl into the stunning white sands of Ravensheugh Beach. If you prefer to lose yourself in the forest, there are trails throughout.
