via ZOOM Book Discussion: "Funny Boy: A Novel," by Shyam Selvadurai

Details
We've moved the book discussion online for April, May, June, and possibly longer. Once you RSVP, you'll get instructions on various ways to connect via an internet-enabled device and by any telephone. 6:15 to 6:30 is for people who aren't familiar with using Zoom to work on getting logged in properly. From 6:30 to about 6:45, we'll chat and see how everyone is doing. The book discussion starts at 6:45.
Booklist says about "Funny Boy:" “Although this falls into the crowded coming-of-age category, Selvadurai adds the foreign, funny, and unusual in a novel that is as personal as it is political. While growing up in Sri Lanka amid Tamil and Sinhalese conflicts, Arjie, a young boy who likes to play with dolls and girls, observes the social constraints abhorred and perpetuated within his own family and in society at large. … Selvadurai, much like E. M. Forster, reveals truths subtly, with poignancy and grace …”
This is a casual gathering of gay men on the second Sunday of the month: we have fun and stimulating discussions about quality gay literature. When shelter-in-place orders are fully lifted, we'll be meeting in person and sharing a potluck meal. Books are selected by participants several months in advance, and the only requirements for attending are to RSVP and to have read a substantial part of what’s being discussed..
Socializing starts at 6:30; book discussion begins at 6:45 and ends by 8:30.
