What we're about

This Meetup deals with the intersection of psychology and technology.

We believe Cambridge Analytica, Headspace and therapy apps are the beginning of the next big thing. After all, anything that deals with humans could do so better by understanding psychology. This will start with dating, friendship, HR, mental health and advertisement but will eventually influence pretty much every industry.

This meetup will feature speakers who are working on apps/businesses that make use of mankind's current understanding of psychology by making it practical and available - or work on broadening our understanding of the human mind by using e.g. machine learning.

We will look at the currently young trend, it’s current and future applications and possible implications. TOPIC Is PsychTech (Psychology + Technology) - the Next Big Thing? SPEAKERS Here is the current line-up of the upcoming speakers (will be updated over time): (1) Benjamin Horvath, Character Benjamin is a pioneer in the PsychTech industry. His app Character uses a sophisticated algorithm to match people seeking new friends. The used algorithms identify people’s core personality traits and can thus predict a range of everyday traits from interests, to habits and hobbies. The power of Cambridge Analytica’s algorithm can be used for positive applications, too, Benjamin says. Because this approach has proven successful in dating and marketing - Benjamin thinks it will soon be applicable to most industries and products. (2) Adam Janes, F35 After his studies in Economics and Computer Science at Harvard, Adam worked on different projects including a parenting app. His current endeavor is F35, a consulting firm that takes a data-driven approach to building a strong and supportive team culture. In his experience, companies underestimate the importance of personality traits in hiring, management and project assignment. PsychTech in HR is a new trend, that is already used by McKinsey, Bridgewater Associates, and other top-class companies.
