We offer Painting Courses at Lilac Cottage Studio which is a peaceful haven in the vibrant village of Rickinghall in the rural idyll of Suffolk. In a friendly and nurturing environment you can learn or improve painting while making new friends.

Ideal for individuals or couples but especially great for people new to the area or wanting to make new friends.

We offer a range of art classes for all abilities in a purpose equipped building located in the garden of our lovely country cottage. All our tutors are professional artists with plenty of experience of teaching and each has their own special skills and genre to share with our guests.

The studio is a comfortable environment with modern facilities, refreshments available all day and lunch is provided with all courses. You may even have the chance to eat in our lovely garden - Suffolk is one of the sunniest places in the U.K.

Life Drawing with Lisa Puhlhofer



*** ONLY 3 PLACES LEFT*** Life drawing is the expression of the human form in its many shapes and postures. In this workshop, we will be drawing from the live model. Exploring techniques and exercises designed to improve observational skills. Using these methods, we will then go one to develop a more resolved drawing of the model. We will focus on, and hopefully develop the individual drawing approach and style of each student. Painting the Winter Landscape - Recreate Monet's ​The Magpie



With winter approaching, learn or brush up on your technique for painting snow. Capturing the many colours and shadows created by snow is an often near-elusive technique and we offer you the opportunity to take advantage of our tutor Rob Nelmes’s experience in painting a snowy landscape by exploring and recreating Monet’s The Magpie. How many shades of white or grey are there? How do you capture the different tones created by snow? How do you create the light and shadows of a snowy landscape? Rob will take you through tips and techniques to tackle all of these questions. Create a Pet Portrait with Pastels



Course suits: Those looking to expand their pastel use to pet portraits. Objectives: To learn to reproduce the basic structure of a non-human form and build up a pet portrait using layers of colour and tone to represent a subject from a photograph. Level: For those already familiar with using Pastels. Materials needed: please see materials list below. Course description. Learn to build a realistic pet portrait using drawing and pastel skills. Pastel is a versatile medium which allows you to use a contemporary approach to layering a drawing from a high resolution photograph of a subject. You will cover the basics of the structure of your subject, aiming to look closely at its image, layering colour and tone to best represent and reflect the subject.
