From Philbrick to Hess

Hello Divas!

A big warm welcome to several new Diva members! I can't believe we're up to 125 ladies in less than 4 years. Thank you to all those that have participated in so many wonderful meet ups.

Kudos to Victoria for joining me last week's Meet Up at Wade Oval Wednesday. I'm sorry so many gals had to cancel, because it was a wonderful night for an outdoor book club picnic. She and I took it upon ourselves to narrow down our next book and realize we need some fresh blood on our future reading list. I've added a few titles, which are always posted on the site. Click on the 'More' tab and then 'Files' to download the full list and descriptions.

Our next book has a more relaxed setting and should be fairly easy to pick up at your local library, on Amazon/Kindle or B&N/Nook. 'The Goodbye Body' by Joan Hess was published in 2006 and is one of several books in the Claire Malloy Mysteries. Whatever method you decide to use to read this book, please keep your eyes peeled for any other novels that strike your interest, bearing in mind, we need LOTS of available copies, so avoid new releases.

For other Meet Up news, I've been contacted by a handful of new authors promoting their books to our club. I'd like to share these emails with all of you, in lieu of an online discussion on how to respond. Please feel free to read through them at your leisure and start a discussion on our message board. We can make a formal decision via an online poll prior to our next Meet Up.

Finally, the next Meet Up will most likely be scheduled after Labor Day. It’s a bit too hectic trying to gather around a major Holiday, especially with those of you that have children preparing for the new school year. I will have new polls up prior to that time with a few new Meet Up locations to choose from as well. In the meantime, happy reading!

Cheers, Amanda

I am a local author and doing my best to promote a book I wrote during my own battle with breast cancer. I recently partnered with a book club in Washington State and the feedback from this special group of women was wonderful. They had been together for 10 years and found their conversations to be the deepest and most profound as a result of using my book and accompanying questions for their conversation..

I am more than happy to send you a copy of my book and you can decide if it might be appropriate for your group. I would also be happy to join your club for a "meet the author" event (at no cost of course) should you decide to use my book.

Although I never considered books clubs as a place to share my story, it really does seem perfect and I hope you will consider the possibility.

Please visit my website and let me know what you think!

Thank you for your time,

We are beginning our publishing adventure with Noah’s Wife by T.K. Thorne and we are hoping you will join us. Ms. Thorne is a fabulous writer (Noah’s Wife won ForeWord Review Magazine's BOOK OF THE YEAR for historical fiction) and we would like to send you a free copy of the book to review and recommend it to your book club if you like it.

Note: Do NOT expect a “religious” story.

Noah’s wife is Na’amah, a brilliant young girl who sees the world through different eyes (a form of autism now known as Aspergers) and wishes only to be a shepherdess on her beloved hills in ancient Turkey – a desire shattered by the hatred of her powerful brother, the love of two men, and a looming disaster.

Or READ the first chapter online (,
But for the BOOK, just send me your address! Free shipping too!

It’s an adventure story.
It’s about dysfunctional family relationships.
It’s about love.
It’s about a cultural time of change.
It will make you laugh, cry and think!
