The Diving Rebel Board of Directors has asked that there be 4 social outings in 2014 so that Rebels can get together out of the water as well as in. The first opportunity of the year will take place in March.

Our first Social outing will be to UTA’s Planetarium in Arlington. Many people were not aware that UTA had a Planetarium or that they offered events to the public. They offer several shows that last about an hour; 30 minutes are dedicated to a narrated view of that evening’s sky and what will be seen along with a 30 minute movie called Exoplanets. “Join mankind’s first space probe as it journeys outside our solar system to the many new worlds astronomers are discovering beyond.” http://www.uta.edu/planetarium/ .

Parking:

Free parking in Student or Faculty surface lots is available from 5:00 pm Friday to 5:00 am Monday. Visitors must park in metered parking or the parking garage outside of these hours.

Covered parking is available in the Maverick Parking Garage located just one-half block south of The Planetarium. Parking in the garage is $2.50 per hour (maximum charge $9.25).

Metered parking is also available around campus, with some metered spots accepting credit cards.

This will be a fun event to attend and learn something about the deep blue up above. It may wet your appetite for more, if so you can join the Rebels in May when we go to Balmorhea State Park for diving in crystal clear water and a Star Party at the McDonald Observatory.

Once we get our heads out of the stars the group (those who wish to come) will enjoy the fun, food and conversation that Restaurant of the Month offers. We will meet up at Olenjack’s Grille in Arlington, not too far away from UTA to discuss what we saw, what we wanted to see and of course where we plan to scuba dive next.

Olenjack’s Grille offers amazing meals that range from down home sandwiches and Chicken Fried Steak to the slightly more refined meals such as Mahi Mahi or Wild Mushroom Pappardelle. There is something for everyone and they have a FULL BAR, so you will be able to enjoy just about any drink you wish.

BE AWARE!!!

Those who wish to attend need to RSVP as Olenjack’s Grille is under a reservation and right now we only have 15 spots available. We can add to that number but we need all reservations of those who plan to attend one or both events in by Friday at 5pm. If you do not reserve your spot it is not guaranteed that we can seat you with the rest of the group and we never want that to happen.
