Docker London is back with three great talks!! We'll be covering deploying containers onto IoT devices with Resin, learning real-world lessons on the best way to build Docker Images from Bitnami and then how to scale Containers with Microsoft.

Please register at Skills Matter to speed up entry and getting you access to food/drinks/networking - https://skillsmatter.com/meetups/10319-docker-london-november

Agenda

6pm - Doors open! Food sponsored by AVI Networks

6.30pm-7pm - Docker for the Internet of Things. Shaun Mulligan, head of product experience, resin.io

Resin.io brings the power of containers to the Internet of Things. We will talk about why Docker is such a good fit for IoT, how we’ve adapted Docker for the use case, and where we take Docker, from drones to turbines to skyscrapers. We will also talk about balena (https://www.balena.io/), our recently released, Moby-based container engine.

7.15pm-7.45pm - Best practices for building kick-ass images. Adnan Abdulhussein, Bitnami

In this talk, I will walk you through Bitnami's journey in maintaining our first handful of container images to the ~70 images of popular open-source apps we have available today. You will learn how to bend entrypoints to your will, improve security with non-root containers, reduce image sizes with multi-stage builds and optimised base images, and more!

Adnan Abdulhussein is a Software Engineer at Bitnami where he helped to build out Bitnami's container library. Adnan now works deeply with the Kubernetes community as a co-lead of SIG-Apps and core maintainer of Kubernetes Charts. He is passionate about running apps in containers, developer tools & experience, open source and the possibility of time travel. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Bristol.
[masked]pm - Containerisation on Azure with AKS and ACS. Justin Davis, Technology Lead for Open Source, Microsoft UK

Justin will be highlighting the containerisation options on the Azure platform as well as demoing the newly announced Azure managed Kubernetes services (AKS) and ACS-Engine.

Justin is the Technology Lead for Open Source at Microsoft in the UK. He’s been working with Open Source for 18 years, and with companies from Startups, Media and Financial Services to Public Sector to implement OSS and championing its adoption to drive innovation and agility

8.15pm - Wrap up + Pub
