DockerNYC @ MongoDB with Opsani & Turbonomic

Details
Hi everyone, we're very excited to kick off the next DockerNYC event at MongoDB. Jay Gordon with MongoDB will be telling us about how to build a NodeJS App with MongoDB Atlas and AWS Elastic Container Service, and Stefana Muller from Opsani will be telling us about Lessons Learned from Rolling Out our Real Live Service.
Cold beverages and bites brought to you by Turbonomic.
Talk
Building a NodeJS App with MongoDB Atlas and AWS Elastic Container Service.
Speaker
Jay Gordon (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaygordon0042/), Cloud Developer Advocate at MongoDB, focused on providing users with a great experience with data in the Cloud.
He joined MongoDB in 2016 after many years as working as a System Administrator and DevOps Professional. Prior to MongoDB, he was able to be part of teams that leveraged large MongoDB deployments such as BuzzFeed.
Abstract
In this talk you'll be given a presentation on how to produce a single page NodeJS app using MongoDB Atlas for persistent storage and AWS's implementation of Docker, ECS. You'll learn how to use the MongoDB Atlas Free Tier along with ECS to deploy an app quickly using simple open source tools. This talk is ideal for those who may want to move beyond using an entire EC2 instance to deploy their application along with MongoDB.
Talk
Continuous Deployment for Docker : Lessons Learned from Rolling Out our Real Live Service.
Speaker
Stefana Muller (https://www.linkedin.com/in/stefanamuller/), Vice President and Dev Evangelist at Opsani
She is a DevOps expert bringing almost 20 years of experience delivering enterprise software to the Fortune 1000. Stefana works with software and application developers to help them move from periodic releases to rapid deployment.
Prior to Opsani, Stefana spent 16 years with CA Technologies running global software product lines in security, cloud, agile development and testing technology. She’s transformed teams from waterfall development to Agile and worked with hundreds of teams to help them move to a DevOps culture.
Abstract
Today most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall.
As with most new architectures, this dream takes a significant work to become a reality. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost and increase in speed. Sometimes in order to reduce complexity teams compromise features or change requirements
In this talk, Stefana Muller will share the journey her engineering team took to continuously deploy their containerized application over the past year. Highlighting the pitfalls and lessons learned so that you too can adopt these best practices to app deployment. If you are working to adopt containers or find yourself patching together script after script to automate your deployment pipeline, this talk is for you.
