Modernizing the Monolith
THIS IS A FREE EVENT - PLEASE FINISH YOUR RSVP IN THE LINK BELOW Containers and microservices go hand in hand, but that doesn't mean traditional monolithic apps can't benefit from containerization. For many tightly coupled, very low-latency and transactional systems, microservices often aren't the best architecture or are too costly to engineer. In this presentation, we'll explore containerization strategies for monolithic applications, and explain how to leverage existing artifact and binary pipelines. We'll also show how containerization reduces the cost of continuous integration, reduces the risk of new deployments, removes specificity in production images, and improves runtime security. We'll start the evening with some socializing, pizza and a quick-recap of DockerCon 2018. We then dive into the topic with slides and a demo. For the night owls, we'll have a quick Water Cooler chat to talk about all things Docker-related. Bring your questions, gripes, and lessons learned. Hosted centrally at Washington University Hillman Hall. Details to come. Agenda 5:30 pm: Social - Pizza 6:00 pm: DockerCon Recap 6:15 pm: Talk 7:00 pm: Water Cooler --- Speaker Sabree Blackmon - Scytale (Developer Programs Engineer) Developer Advocate @Scytale_io + @SPIFFEio. Nerding-out over AppSec, containers, Go and Rust. Hosted By Sabree Blackmon, Community Leader --- THIS IS A FREE EVENT - PLEASE FINISH YOUR RSVP IN THE LINK BELOW

    What we're about

Learn, Collaborate & Dockerize! Meet other developers and ops engineers in your community that are using and learning about Docker. Docker is an open platform that helps you build, ship and run applications anytime and anywhere. Developers use Docker to modify code and to streamline application development, while operations gain support to quickly and flexibly respond to their changing needs. Docker ensures agility, portability and control for all your distributed apps.

Docker is also the main sponsor of the Moby Project, an open framework to assemble specialized container systems without reinventing the wheel. More information available at
