What we're about

WELCOME.

If you know why you need to bring a towel on each and every excursion, or if you are counting the days until the new Star Wars land opens at Disneyland, or perhaps you have just rewatched Fringe, Space, Above & Beyond, Dark Matter, Star Trek Discovery and Capaldi's run on Dr Who (last weekend), then maybe you should join this gaggle of gleeful geeks.

Say it proud! Geeks, nerds, fans, aficionados of the fantastics, purveyors of the whiz bang awesomeness that comes with being the first one on your block to wear your new Dr Who sweatshirt to work, your Star Trek socks to school and/or your Yoda pajamas to bed, this is a place for you!

We will watch shows together, have Coffee & Cinema excursions, check out cons in the area and support our unique and valued love for everything sci-fi, fantasy and beyond.

We have a cool meeting place in San Jose, but will also meet in various locations (coffee shop based) and other as we grow this group. Beginning in Feb we will also be hosting our very own podcast with reviews of current films, tv shows and more - if you want to be part of our audience or (dare we hope) a future guest, guess you best sign up and get the full scoop as it becomes available.

Ok, you can start to panic now.

Classic Film Screening, coffee and discussion. (Ongoing Monthly - Third Sunday)

This month we are screening the incomparable British film: Quatermass & the Pit aka Five Million Years to Earth Nigel Kneale's Quatermass TV series spawned a brief film series produced over an eleven-year period; 1967's Quatermass and the Pit, released in the US as Five Million Years to Earth, was the third and (until 1979's Quatermass Conclusion) last of the features. As with previous chapters in the Kneale saga, the film begins with a baffling scientific discovery. This time it's an alien ship, alive after 5,000,000 years, discovered during the excavation of a new subway line. The craft is able to cause psychic disturbances in individuals genetically connected to the machine; it also prompts them to see dead Martians as ghostly entities nearby. In time, conclusions drawn from these events lead scientists to shocking conclusions about the origins of the human race. /--------------------/ SCI-FI LOVERS UNITE! CLASSIC FILM SCREENING! BEING MOVED TO THIRD WEEKEND EACH MONTH. The third Sunday of each month we will be hosting a screening of some of the best sci-fi films ever made. From George Pal classics like The Time Machine and War of the Worlds, to hidden gems like 8 Million Years to Earth and Enemy Mine. Don't worry, The Live and Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension will also be screening at some point. So far we have screened films like War of the Worlds, Forbidden Planet, The Time Machine, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Colossus the Forbin Project to name a few. While many of you have probably seen these films before, this is a great time to revisit them and if you are so inclined, break open a game of chess or Scrabble during the film and relive scenes in between play. Which film will be screening next? We will have a couple choice each time and attendees will pick out the film once they arrive. Afterward we will discuss the films and who knows, might even have some fun. Feel free to bring snacks, coffee, tea and water will be provided along with a Scrabble and chess set. THERE IS A LIMIT OF 14 SEATS - FOR THIS EVENT. A few of the films to be considered for our screenings in 2019, will include: Earth VS. Flying Saucers (1956) Dark City (1998) They Live (1988) Metropolis (1927) The Thing from Another World (1951) Them! (1954) Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) Logan's Run (1976) This Island Earth (1955) When Worlds Collide (1951) Quatermass & the Pit (1967) aka 5 Million Years to Earth Destination Moon (1950) The Iron Giant (1999) Silent Running (1972) The Philadelphia Experiment (1984) Time After Time (1979) Please add any suggestions to the comment section below!
