What we're about

Welcome to Downtown Disciples, a progressive faith community, where you will be welcomed, affirmed, loved, inspired, and challenged. We are an LGBTQ+affirming #BlackLivesMatter proclaiming community doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly together by following the way of Jesus and honoring many spiritual paths. We are making a positive impact in downtown Des Moines. We gather for intelligent spiritual discussions, book studies, progressive worship and social gatherings. We embrace science, diversity, social justice, technology and spiritual practices. We volunteer at shelters, serve the hungry, work for peace, speak truth to power, protest, rally, but refuse to judge, condemn, or exclude.

Progressive Bible Geeks

Ritual Cafe

Start your morning with geeky progressive conversations on the scripture in a cool spot with a great cup of coffee! Have you wanted to read the Bible, but just don't know where to begin? Join us during the season of Advent as we read about the subversive liberating resistance found in the Christmas story, as told by Matthew and Luke. The birth narratives of Jesus are a much more than a sweet Christmas pageant. These stories are full of justice, peace and power! Pastor Debbie brings discussion guides to inform our reading with literary and historical context and we'll find relevant meaning for our daily living in these old stories. These old stories are fodder for people passionate about social justice. No biblical knowledge or experience required. Easy Street Access to La Mie Elevate at 6th and Locust. Enter on North Side of Locust. Take elevator to skywalk level. La Mie is right there! You don't even have to enter the skywalk system. Street Parking is metered, or park in the ramp at 5th and Locust.
