Forgotten Landmarks of Detroit with Dan Austin

Details

Dan Austin is a Corktown resident, author of Forgotten Landmarks of Detroit (http://www.historicdetroit.org/shop) and creator of the fantastic Detroit history blog, HistoricDetroit.org (http://www.historicdetroit.org).

The Detroit News says of Dan's book, this is "a book Detroit has needed for decades. ... Lushly illustrated with historical photographs, this book is a must for anyone interested in architecture, historic preservation or Detroit history." This book is the sequel to "Lost Detroit: Stories Behind the Motor City's Majestic Ruins" and tells the tales behind 15 landmarks that have disappeared from Detroit's skyline. Features more than 100 photos of a different Detroit - a Detroit that many have never seen. From the hallowed halls of Old City Hall to the story behind the city's first skyscraper to the majestic steamship City of Detroit III to the birthplace of the automotive industry, this book gives a glimpse into some of the most stunning places Detroit has ever known.

Come out to McShane's in Corktown to hear Dan's love for the buildings and stories of Detroit and share some cocktails at the historic corner of Michigan and Trumbull.

Also, bring some cash to support a fantastic Detroit historian by picking up a copy or two of his book. It makes a great gift.
