19:00 – START

Intro to Speakers

19:05 - FIRST GUEST SPEAKER: Szymon Pobiega is a software engineer that has spent last 13 years solving problems by writing code. He has seen trends come and go, buzzwords being created, worshipped and torn to pieces. Last couple of years he has focused on trying to understand the most prevalent problems in building robust distributed systems and helping people overcome these problems by applying industry's recognised tools and techniques.
In that journey Szymon came to believe that the key to building a robust distributed solution is understanding of the thee aspects of communication between system elements. These three are message routing (how you move message from one place to the other), message delivery (how to consume the message) and message processing (how the business logic responding to the message should be structured). When tired with coding, Szymon enjoys building remotely controlled vehicles with Lego.

19:45 - Q&A available to speaker

20:00 - Drinks & Food. This is your time to meet other members and network!

20:15 - Marco Bonezzi is a Team Lead for Technical Services at MongoDB, based out of Dublin, Ireland. He works helping customers to be successful with MongoDB. His interests focus mainly on WiredTiger, database performance and implementing MongoDB on containers. Prior to MongoDB, Marco held technical customer-facing roles in Ireland and Spain, always related to servers and distributed systems, databases and high availability solutions.

Abstract of the talk:Microservices architectures are becoming more popular and we see a trend towards smaller units of deployment based on containers. While most microservices need databases, implementing MongoDB on containers adds additional complexity: databases are stateful applications where data is critical. MongoDB is a complex distributed system with its own high availability implementation where using containers can expose additional risks.

In this talk we explore how to successfully define our database infrastructure with MongoDB running on Docker containers, how to orchestrate MongoDB containers with Kubernetes in multiple environments, considerations and strategies for managing stateful MongoDB containers, and how to manage high availability and resiliency in a distributed system while running on a container technology such as Kubernetes.
