Welcome to Mays meetup! We're delighted to welcome 3 speakers this month. Peter Poliwoda (@PeterPoliwoda), Conall Laverty (@conallLaverty) and PJ Fitzpatrick (@opensourcepj).

First Speaker:
Peter Poliwoda ​http://peterpoliwoda.me is a full Stack Software Developer at IBM. Hobbyist designer. Front End, Mobile apps, IoT. Curious first adopter of new tech. Peter likes solving problems of day to day life using software and enjoys building solutions that make life easier. If a problem can be explained, it can be solved.

These were the droids you were looking for.

Talk Intro:
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if robots could actually read your mind? What if you could control the world around you with Jedi-like powers just by thinking? We'll try to answer these questions with a bit of IoT, a bit of JavaScript and a whole lot of brain power.

Second Speaker:
Conall Laverty is the Founder & CEO of Wia, one of the world’s leading Internet of Things cloud platforms. Wia provides a simple way for people and things to talk to each other with just a few lines of code. The platform is now being used by developers in more than 85 countries and has attracted over €1m in venture capital funding with backers including Suir Valley Ventures, Enterprise Ireland and NDRC. He is a key figure in the Irish Internet of Things ecosystem. Previously Conall was CTO of Big Motive, a creative technology company based in London and Belfast. There he architected and developed products for BBC, Net-a-Porter, Channel 4 and Nokia. He is also Technical Director of Woogie, an innovation consultancy who has worked with Cambridge Silicon Radio, Deezer and startups throughout Ireland. He attained a First Class Honourary Masters from Queen’s University Belfast in Computer Games Development.

MDA at Wia: An Introduction to Module Driven Architecture

Talk Intro:
Learn how Module Driven Architecture is used at Wia for implementing all of their backend services and APIs

Third Speaker:
PJ Fitzpatrick has close to 30 years experience in IT, Trading, Derivative Pricing, ALM, Credit Risk and Market Risk for Irish and International Banks.
Current areas of interest in Crypto are risk measurement/mitigation and writing smart contracts for bitcoin, ethereum, eos and lisk.

Bitcoin Scripting in Nodejs

Talk Intro:
- Introduction to bitcoin
- Why you should get involved in bitcoin programming
- Viewing existing transactions using bitcoinjs-lib and blockchain.info api
- Setting up local test environment for bitcoin using bitcoinjs-lib, bitcoind and bitcoin-cli
- Creating on chain transactions in local test environment using bitcoinjs-lib
- Extending bitcoin functionality by creating trades that have both on and off chain transactions
