The Service Design Network Ireland and Dublin UX are happy to deliver to you the ninth Service Design Network Dublin meetup!

For this event we’ll have 3 amazing speakers keen to share their stories on Service Design:

Susan Butler

Talk:
McDonald’s, DIY Stationery & Glitter Pens – Design in the Details

Description:
Susan will talk about designing with people in large scale social innovation projects. She’ll walk through a hands-on example of designing a new service interaction from ethnographic research, to codesign, prototyping, blueprinting, and scoping to scale – all in an offline, non-digital space. You’ll see the messy, behind-the-scenes picture of the effort, rigour and intentionality of service design projects and how it paid off in creating tangible impact for people.

Bio
Susan has been working as a service designer for over 10 years and she currently leads Co Creation activities within BNP Paribas Securities Services, where she focuses on ensuring innovation projects deliver impact and value for clients. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, Susan was part of the Innovation Design team in Citi’s Innovation Lab Dublin, where she was design lead on a large disruptive technology initiative, as well as driving fostering innovation and design sprint activities. She has also worked on a number of large scale service design projects in the public sector including being a part of the core team within The Australian Centre for Social Innovation who launched the award winning start-up Family by Family, and a team leader with the Designing Dublin initiative run in partnership with Dublin Citi Council.

Shane Waring

Talk:
Response to change.

Description:
"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” As a city, how can we become more responsive to change? As a city council how can we better respond to increasing population, expectations and workload combined with decreasing trust in authorities and lower budgets and staff numbers?
Or to put it another way, how can we think in decades and centuries, but act in months and years?
These thoughts caused me to set up Dublin City Council Beta as a part-time project back in 2012, and last year it became my fulltime role within Dublin City Council. I’d like to talk to you about that path, and how I would like to grow the initiative.

Bio
Shane Waring initiated and leads Dublin City Council Beta – a Dublin City Council live mechanism for imagining, testing and implementing ways to improve the experience of life in the Capital.
He previously co-founded Ireland’s first carsharing service GoCar, was a team member of the Designing Dublin project, and also practiced as an architect in Dublin City Council’s City Architects and ecological architecture practice Solearth.
