Service Design Network Dublin Meetup #11

Details

The Service Design Network Ireland and Dublin UX are happy to deliver to you the eleventh Service Design Network Dublin meetup! This event is kindly hosted by our friends in NCAD.

This time around we have 3 amazing speakers, keen to share their stories on Service Design in Government and Public Services. This one is sure to generate a lot of interest with people who want to know more about how Service Design can positively impact societies, so be sure to get your ticket!:

Neil Ward, Head of Operations & Service Delivery, Department of Justice and Equality

Talk:
Service Design and the Civil Service

Description:
Neil will share his early experiences of establishing the first service design team within a Government Department, and set out how that team is beginning to operate. He will also reflect on the key challenges and opportunities in embedding service design approaches in the civil service.

Bio
Neil Ward is a Director of the Department of Justice and Equality. As Head of Operations and Service Delivery, he leads newly established project management, business change, service design and customer insight teams. While working in Ireland’s immigration service, he developed an interest in the application of service design approaches to the provision of public services, and established the redesign of services based on the lived experiences of customers as one of the key themes underpinning service improvements in that area. He was awarded an Eisenhower Fellowship in early 2019, travelling to the US for six weeks to examine how to build a culture of innovation within a public sector context.

Aidan O’Boyle

Talk: Top 5 Service Design Insights from Practice

Description:
Aidan will share his Top 5 insights from practicing Service Design in NZ & the UK for the last 7 years. He will also discuss how he thinks the emergent SD in gov sector in Ireland can overcome barriers to embedding SD in large traditional organisations.

Bio:
Aidan O’Boyle is Service Designer who has spent the last 7 years applying the design process to transformational and ambiguous problems in large organisations. Working in New Zealand and the UK, this has included designing cross-government services, debt management services, legal frameworks, and for organisational transformation, always with a focus on supporting vulnerable people.

At Citizens Advice in the UK, Aidan has grown the discipline from being the first Service Designer in the organisation to a robust community of 13. A graduate of Industrial Design at NCAD and Interdisciplinary Design at Napier University Edinburgh, Aidan has spent 16 years designing for retail, hospitality, events, graphics and services.
