  • Nortsoide swim: that tiny beach near Baily Lighthouse

In keeping with the topic of the last few days and to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and the release of Bowie's "Space Oddity", let's explore the lunar landscapes of the Howth peninsula. We start with a 15 mins hike (ie. not a walk to be done with flat soled shoes. Hiking shoes/trainers and long sleeved T-Shirts are recommended) to the beach itself. Views second to none. Meetup place summit car park. We will grab some food afterwards. Please note that the swim is at your own risk, we are not lifeguards, we just organise to meet and bring like minded people together! The weather forecast seems OK for Sat so why not have our picnic on the beach? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4ng_FK7WQY

  • Full Moon Swim Seapoint 🌝

    Seapoint Beach

Hi there, A group of seapoint swimmers are going in for a full moon dip tomorrow evening at 10pm. I thought it would be of interest to the Seals, especially with the good weather. We will meet at 10pm sharp at the bike rack and then go for a swim. As there may be a crowd, we won’t hang about, so please be on time or a bit early. Maybe bring a hot drink for afterwards if you have a flask. As always swimming is entirely at your own risk, so please swim within the limits of your ability. I’m really looking forward to this, so hopefully see you there.😎. John

  • Red Rock swim + Hike (Howth).

Junction between Strand Road and Shielmartin road, South Howth.

How about a double whammy hike + swim rolled into one. Let's meet at the gates off the Shielmartin Rd. From there it's a 20-25 mins walk each way to Red Rock beach. (well deserved) lunch afterwards. The meeting place is quite far away from the nearest Dart station (Sutton, around 2 km) so we can organize carpooling. Please note that Red Rock is a stony and not a sandy beach so aqua shoes or flipflops might come in handy. For those of you driving, worth noting that you need to use the counter-clockwise ring road and turn right on the first main road. Carry on straight ahead on Strand Rd for 1 km. You'll see gates to the loop Rd. Try to park as closely as possible to these gates. Driving recommended so feel free to reach out to the drivers among us. Walking not recommended due to the lack of footpaths. We hope to start the hike at 12.00 so as to be able to swim by 12.30. Please let us know sufficiently in advance should you change your RSVP or if you cannot find us. What to bring For the swim: Wear whatever you like. Bring layers, dry clothes, warm drinks, hot water bottles and if you wish: wetsuit, gloves, booties. Whatever is comfortable to you. After the swim: Bring some money for a cup of coffee and food afterwards. • Important to know You swim at your own risk! There are no lifeguards in the group or at the location at that time; the sea is cold; the weather uncertain. We merely facilitate the bringing together of swimmers. Update your attendance - if you can't make it, change your status or face my wrath.
