Prototyping UI with webpack; JavaScript module bundlers; Fast images;

RSVPs will open 4pm Tuesday 26th June

Hey all,
This month we've an amazing set of talks for you hosted by the lovely folks over at Stripe Dublin. We'll have three talks on the night including:

Leveraging the inner workings of Webpack - Jay Divock, Stripe (
Jay Divock is a front-end engineer at Stripe who originally hails from Brooklyn. He's spent his career working across various industries from financial institutions to advertising before landing out west.
This talk will be about leveraging the inner workings of Webpack to create your own internal CodePen for prototyping new UI components by dynamically requiring and evaluating code in large codebases.

Unbundling the JavaScript module bundler - Luciano Mammino (
Today we all use Webpack (right?), but I remember a time when you had to manually copy-paste JavaScript files to create a package of libraries to use in your frontend application. Many years have passed since then and the landscape of module bundlers has evolved significantly along with the evolution of JavaScript and Node.js.
In this talk, I will try to uncover some JavaScript module history and illustrate how module bundlers actually work, so that the next time you will use Webpack you will be able to understand what's going on behind the scenes. Finally I will touch on some advanced features of module bundlers and how they work (e.g. module caching and resolving cyclic dependencies). My hope is that with this talk module bundlers won't feel magic anymore to you!

Fast and Beautiful Images - Doug Silars (
The average mobile website page weight is ~50% images. Toss in the complication of thousands of differently sized screens, and it might appear that efficient delivery of images to every device is an impossible task. But all is not lost!
In this talk, we’ll examine strategies to send the perfect image to every device, ensuring a fast, beautiful rendering of your content. We’ll look at progressive images, placeholder images, lazy loading and other techniques and real-world examples that will improve the usability of your site or app. Attendees will come away with an understanding of the current ‘state of the art’ for optimizing visual content on the web.

Thanks to our sponsors Stripe who have kindly offered us their space and will also be providing pizza and drinks on the night.

This will be a popular event so please grab your RSVPs early. We'll have a waitlist in operation so if you can't make it on the night please release your RSVPs for others to use.
