Beyond Process - Product Delivery in a Post-Agile World
We are extremely happy to host Jeff Hackert’s who's trip to South Africa is sponsored by the Agile Alliance Emerging Economies initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to assist economically emerging economies (such as South Africa) with affordable access to premium Agile events and speakers. To learn more about the Agile Alliance and the Emerging Economies initiative, check out their website: https://www.agilealliance.org/ Jeff Hackert has been working with technology teams for over 30 years. He has worked with market innovators in telecommunications, software deployment, Gaming, food and beverage, and e-commerce (Nextel, Chef, Riot Games, Soylent, Red Bull, ABSA Bank, Standard Bank, Visa, Sourceclear and many more). He is both a coach and mentor to tech leaders and software developers helping individuals and teams to improve their approach to product development and delivery. His approach to product delivery is centered around the values, mindsets and work habits that produce great teams and amazing products. Talk Abstract: In my experience, great product delivery teams have moved on from what most would recognize as ‘Agile’ development. It’s not they have completely abandoned the core principles and practices. But rather that their concerns have moved beyond process and communication. The current criticisms of Agile are not an argument with the central principles (though we are definitely ready for some change there). It is more a sense of frustration that despite using the "tools" of Agile, teams spend months on an MVP without knowing whether what they are building is valuable. I have worked with many companies who invest heavily in Agile training and in building an innovation culture and yet are not getting early feedback. Their teams often spending months in development without knowing what they have, or worse, whether it has market fit. In this talk I will describe the values, mind-set, and work habits embodied in the best product delivery teams that help them to deliver early and get feedback often.
