Dutch Mesos User Group Meetup #2 - @Container Solutions Amsterdam

Details

Are you a technologist working with modern data-intensive applications development including containers, Kubernetes, Spark, Mesos, Akka, Cassandra, Kafka, HDFS, Jenkins, Elastic, MongoDB, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, and DevOps?

Apache Mesos & DC/OS make it insanely easy to build, deploy and scale these and similar world-changing technologies leveraging hybrid cloud, public clouds or your own data centers.
Join our meetup and hear all about managing multiple machines in the cloud or on-premises from a single interface.

Program

18:00 - 18:45 Walk-in, socializing

18:45 - 19:00 Opening speech: Introduction Container Solutions, partnership Mesosphere

19:00 - 19:30 General introduction to Apache Mesos & DC/OS - By Taco Scargo

19:30 - 20:00 Big data meets containers - By Bart Smith

Big data meets containers:Traditionally big data runs on special tuned hardware configurations. And 12-factor stateless services run on your orchestrator. Bart will take you on the journey of running Big data apps on DC/OS. What storage options does DC/OS offer natively? What benefits does Portworx have? We look at their internals and at preliminary experience with both. Lessons learned and future trends.

Bart consulted 2 greenfield DC/OS implementations, both Enterprise startups. He enjoys supporting his colleague Developers in deploying their apps on DC/OS.

20:00 - 20:30 Storage for the Cloud Native World - By
Christoph Kleineweber

While containerized applications have been widely adopted in modern data center infrastructures, storage is in many cases still provided by special hardware. We will discuss how to operate distributed file, object, and block storage systems with orchestration tools like Mesos or Kubernetes. Providing persistent and highly available volumes for containerized applications is essential. Modern container features like mount propagation can be used to run both, client and server processes in containers.

Christoph is working as a software engineer on the Quobyte data center file system. He was doing distributed systems research before and maintainer of the distributed file system XtreemFS.

20:30 - 21:30 Drinks, socializing

The Meetup will be host at Container Solutions at walking distance from Amsterdam C.
