What is "Truth and Reconciliation? How do countries deal systemically with post conflict, post oppressive periods and resulting inequities?
The United Nations defines "Transitional Justice" as the full range of processes and mechanisms associated with a Society’s Attempt to come to terms with a legacy of large-scale "past" abuses and resulting social inequities.
"Truth and Reconciliation Commissions" are one model of transitional justice, used with some success in countries like South Africa, Canada and Mauritious (and even in our own Greensboro, South Carolina).
As part of our continuing three part series "Envisioning Unity in the U.S.", RUC members Sven Theisen and Albert Cook will co-facilitate our collective learning about transitional justice and how that might look in the United States.
See you this Wednesday!
