Join as we return to the Kimlin Cider Mill in Poughkeepsie, once home to a thriving cidery and a favorite watering hole of Vassar girls. It is also the perfect location from which to consider Poughkeepsie's colorful role in the Prohibition era.

As County Historian Will Tatum will present, the city and the town occupied a pivotal position in efforts to enforce and evade Prohibition in Dutchess County. His presentation will examine the waves of speakeasies that popped up throughout the area, the role of the county courts in prosecuting Prohibition violations, and the feuds between government and police during the process of both suppressing and protecting illegal liquor operations.

Following the presentation, we will take advantage of the longer summer hours to investigate the cider mill's machinery and enjoy a reception outdoors. Lawn games and refreshments will be available throughout the event.

The main presentation kicks off at 6:30 PM and the site will be open until 8:30 PM. Registration begins at 6:00.
