What we're about

Hi, we are Sheena and Karen and we created Dynamic Meladies from our love of music and our joy of performing and sharing songs with others.

At Dynamic Meladies we want to help women aged 25+ to find their singing voices in a safe and encouraging environment. We have been running regular singing classes, and a series of workshops covering a range of techniques, since early 2016 and are developing a selection of online resources to help you get the most out of your voice!

We know that confidence can be a real issue for women, making it hard to take that first step and go along and sing in the company of others. At Dynamic Meladies we want to encourage women to develop confidence in themselves and their voices by providing a space for women to enjoy singing and learning together. Don’t worry if you don’t have much experience of singing, this is your chance to have a go and learn more about your voice in a relaxed and friendly setting.

There are no auditions and you don’t need to be able to read music as we teach all of the songs and harmonies by ear.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) INFORMATION

Due to the current COVID-19 advice in place, we have moved our Singing Sessions online in the meantime. We will, however, be maintaining an online element to our classes once the restrictions are lifted, so don't worry if you wouldn't be able to come along in person in the future, we will still be here for you!

With a variety of classes on offer, we have something to suit you whatever your level of experience:

Our regular Session Meetups run on a Saturday morning (10.30am - 12.00pm) and a Wednesday evening (7.00 - 8.30pm) The Wednesday class is particularly suited for people with less experience. We also have a Beginners Singing Session, to get you started, on a Tuesday evening (7.00 - 8.30pm).

Here's what some of our ladies have to say:

“Can't recommend this group highly enough. Friendly, welcoming, relaxed, inclusive space for fun and confidence building through group singing. It's like a really good fitness class but for your voice, and you get cookies after.”

“I had a brilliant time and went home 'buzzing'. Thank you so much for running the class, it challenges, cheers and inspires me.”

“I’m really enjoying singing again and already feel more confident in using my voice after a good few years away from singing, so thank you both very much.”

“This is a fantastic group, very friendly and fun and a chance to learn a bit more about singing techniques so you can improve. I nearly didn't go because I thought 'Who am I kidding?' but I'm so glad I did. Songs were generally well-known and harmonies taught at a pace I could follow. I had a really great time.”

The range of choirs now available shows how much people enjoy singing together. However, in a larger group there is less opportunity to focus on your own voice and develop it. At Dynamic Meladies we work in smaller groups, so we can really get to know your voice. We sing a cappella (unaccompanied) and, in this way, we are able to concentrate on the sound of the voice itself and the many things it can do!

At our weekly Singing Session Meetups, you’ll have the chance to learn melodies and harmonies and sing different parts. We sing a wide range of styles and give you the opportunity to suggest new material, which we then arrange to suit the group.

We also run a series of interactive workshops, focussing on specific aspects of vocal technique, providing an opportunity for you to develop your voice and brush up on your performance skills.

Our fun weekly Singing Meetups are your opportunity to learn and sing with other women in an informal and supportive setting and develop confidence in your singing voice!

We are now running our Saturday Singing Sessions face-to-face. We are, however, also continuing to run our classes online, in conjunction with the face-to-face Sessions, so don't worry if you are not ready or not able to come along in person in Glasgow, you will still be able to join us!

Our Saturday Singing Meetup* runs from 10.30am – 12.10pm at the Glasgow Unitarian Church building, 72 Berkeley Street, Glasgow G3 7DS. We are running this Session both face-to-face and online at the venue.

* The new term for our Beginners Singing Meetup Session is now underway on a Tuesday evening and is not currently open to new members. We will be running new Beginners classes periodically so please contact us (either via Meetup or email us at: [masked]) if you are interested in participating in a future Beginners class.

The focus in our classes is on having fun and learning a variety of songs together. We are not a choir so, rather than always singing the same part, you will have the chance to learn both melodies and harmonies for songs and to try out different parts. Doing this will help you to explore your sound and to learn more about your voice and what it can do. We sing a cappella (unaccompanied) so that we can really focus on our voices and learn how to bring out our best sound.

We want to help you feel confident in your voice and experience the real joy of singing!

Our classes run at a pace to suit the group and we are always happy to go over parts again, so don't be worried about whether you will be able to keep up. The Sessions are very informal and interactive - you can check things out and ask questions as we go along. We spend time in each class covering vocal techniques that will help you progress as a singer and will develop and strengthen your voice. There are no auditions and, as we don’t use printed scores, you don’t have to be able to read music.

We have a varied list of songs and styles in our repertoire, so there is always something for everyone. We'd love to have you with us, so come along and join us and don't miss out on the fun!

Each week at the Sessions we:

• start with a warm-up to get you ready to sing

• work on vocal technique to help you develop and strengthen your voice and learn more about singing

• learn and sing songs together, complete with our melodic harmonies

• have some time to socialize and chat

Please RSVP to book and pay for your place in advance at our face-to-face/online Singing Meetup on Saturday 9th July 2022.

Please note that on Meetup we are not able to provide different booking links for joining us face-to-face or online, so we will email you directly (not through Meetup) to check how you are intending to join us. (If we can see from your Meetup profile that you don't live near Glasgow, we will assume that you are joining us online.)

If you book for the online Session, we will email you directly (again not through Meetup) with the link to join this. We are using the Zoom video conferencing app for our online Singing Sessions and we'll send you details of how to download and use the app and how to join the Session.

N.B. If you are joining us online, please do not share the ID and password numbers for the Online Sessions both for security reasons and as we only send these out once people have booked and paid for the Session.

If you book to join us face-to-face, we will email you directly (again, not through Meetup) with the details for attending the Session.

We look forward to singing with you.
