Effective Altruists maintain that donating money to those in dire need is typically a good use of our resources. This is particularly the case when we thoughtlessly spend money on products that don't actually improve our lives.

Identifying the ways in which we legitimately spend to improve our lives, as well as how we waste money can help us to make more edifying choices. Doing so can increase our financial security and our capacity to do good.
