What we're about
Go is a classic, 2-player board game of strategy. Players take turns placing round "stones" on a 19 X 19 grid. At the end of the game, the one with the most "territory" wins. To learn how to play, click here (https://www.meetup.com/East-Bay-Go-Club/pages/23857854/Go_for_Beginners/).
Go has been played for thousands of years and is fun & exciting for people of all ages. Go sharpens the mind, develops strategic thinking, and improves concentration and self-control. It's also a great way to meet people and make new friends.
The East Bay Go Club uses innovative methods to help you improve your skill quickly. For example, we learn advanced strategic concepts by reading "The Art of War" (https://www.meetup.com/East-Bay-Go-Club/pages/23701393/Quotes_from_the_Art_of_War_by_Sun_Tzu/) by the ancient Chinese general Sun Tzu. And, to create a relaxing atmosphere, we use aromatherapy and play soft, calming, background music (https://www.meetup.com/East-Bay-Go-Club/pages/23703968/Music_for_Meditation%2C_Relaxation_and_Concentration).
The president of the club is Chris Russell, 4d, (http://tinyurl.com/go-instruction) one of the top players in the Bay Area. He'll be happy to play with you, no matter what your level and, if you're a beginner, you've come to the right place to learn how to play!
