- Fast and effective graphic design. Tools, tricks and finding Your style
Design is what connects us to the world. It brings us to action and it is becoming evermore important. Time to get back together. We're meeting over the topic of graphic design and any/all things leading up to how design moves us. Tips, tricks and more. We'll cover what sort of apps you need in your tool box, How you might be able to replace your Adobe subscription addiction, Achieve styles of design, managing your project assets, find your flow and a whole heck of a lot more. Design is at the heart of our club and the purpose of this meetup is to strengthen our design abilities together. It's one in a series of design-orientated meetups we'll be hosting along with the East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce. @ Mac Games on Main St. Doors open at 7pm. Talk begins at 7:30. Thank you Mac Games for sponsoring us and hosting our meetups!
- Press Start
In order to play, You must press start. Come meet up with us over the topic of gaming. Both on and off screen. East Troy has a few unique connections and accomplishments that the club would love to put the spotlight on. We're also itching to talk about immersive gaming and how we love to loose ourselves in the worlds we build. This meetup is going to be a smörgåsbord of gaming introductions, news, gadgets, how-it's-made resources, and more. If you're looking for your next game, you'll find it here. We'll kick the night off at our new friends place, MAC Games in East Troy and then head over to The Hive around 8pm for mead and popcorn. This meetup kicks off a new series and format of Computer Club Meetups and is absolutely the best one to attend if you're a new comer to the club. Hope to see you there!
If you were a computer kid in the late 90's, chances are you used Winamp. For those unfamiliar, you're in for a treat. Even to this day, nothing is quite like what Winamp was and somehow, still is. Winamp is just an mp3 player... that kicked-off our digital libraries, powered rave culture and LAN parties, giving us an early glimpse and reach into digital sound design, digital DJ-ing and, most importantly, control over our soundtrack to frag to. Come join us for a visually stimulating, nostalgic social mixer to kick off a new series of meetups. This will be less of a presentation and more of a chatty + enjoy the music + standing thing. Light snacks and beverages will be available. If you're a new member, this is a great one to jump in on. Doors open at 7pm. We move things over to Sammy's at 9pm. Please note: If you are epileptic or are sensitive to intense audio/visual effects this may not be the best meetup to attend. Watch the meetup page for upcoming event announcements. NEW: This is a ticketed ($5), limited-seating event. You *must* RSVP and present ID at the door to attend.
Just because they're secret doesn't mean we can't talk about them. Let's meet over the topic of passwords and everything related to keeping your things safe. Come join us for a quick meetup before the holidays so you'll better know how to explain Two-Factor Authentication to your relatives over Christmas dinner. Doors open at 7. Talk begins at 7:30. If you have a cool tool to show & tell, bring it. If you have a general announcement, job position or tech question, be prepared to present on it. We want to hear about all the fun stuff you've been up to--and the technical challenges you're looking for hints on. We're here to help and to have a great time. Welcome back to the Computer Club. Extra Credit: Someone bring a device to code on (platform and language of your choice) to help us decide which alcohol permit holding establishment on the square to go to first after the meetup. I'll explain later.
- Text Editor Wars
One of my mentors told me that a Sysadmin's text editor is like a Marine's rifle (a tech twist on the Rifleman's Creed). How well you understand and perform in your text editor can make or break you in this industry. Whether you're a sysadmin, coder, designer, copywriter; your editor, and how you use it, can set you apart from the competition. Let's meet up and argue over which text editor is the one true editor *cough*vi*cough*. Come prepared to roast the editor you despise most. Let's have fun but also be open-minded. We'll go over what editors are out there, where they come from, their pro/cons, communities, and the plugin ecosystems that supercharge your workflow to make it your own. The goal is to learn more about the editor you already love, and to have a better idea of what else is out there that you might want to try out. We'll meet at 7:00pm at the cafe. We encourage you to bring your laptop to hack/work along with us. If you have a cool tool to show and tell--bring it. If you have a tech question, job opening, or current tech news you want to share, there will be some time before we begin a ~45min presentation. After meetups we typically grab drinks and pizza at a tavern, pub or saloon located on our historic village square. Yes. We have all three. Yes they're all awesome. Looking forward to seeing you there!
- I’ve got nothing to hide; Security, Privacy and the value of Anonymity
Join us as we return from a 3 month hiatus on the most important topic we can think of; Your privacy. The evening will be full of resources and references to help you establish and promote secure, private space in this crazy digital world of ours. We encourage club members familiar in the topic to come prepared to participate in discussion and for those who aren't; ask all the questions. Doors open 7pm. Talk starts 7:30pm. If you have any cool tools to show & tell, or a lightning/ignite talk on a technology, project or job posting, let us know and we'll be happy to give you some time to announce/present on it. Drip coffee should be available. Admission is free. "United States and its partners, unbeknownst to the entire world, have converted the Internet, once heralded as an unprecedented tool of liberation and democratization, into an unprecedented zone of mass, indiscriminate surveillance."
- Getting in (and out of) the Zone
We usually refer to 'The Zone' as being in a state of intense focus, usually in short bursts. No matter if it's programming, cooking, 3d modeling, painting, carpentry, designing, writing... you name it--you can experience the zone. This is both an amazing and tricky state to be in and tonight we'll have a chance to step through it and see it for what is it and how best to utilize it. Please do bring a cool tool to show and tell. There should be coffee available. The talk itself will be a shorter one. Encouraging the audience to jump in and have a round table-like discussion to hear some stories and questions on the topic. Stick around as we'll likely head over to the pub for some pizza and brews. See you there. \(•◡•)/
- Nostalgia & dopamine - How to access and preserve software you love
The computer club is back after a long break to meet over the topic of emulation, virtualization and all the various tech and culture around preserving and accessing software you love. Wether that be a DOS music tracker, office software, video games, operating systems, even Sheep.exe (remember that little guy?). This evenings meetup will be a showcase of solutions and live demos to reminisce over old tech together as well as wet your appetite in seeking out software titles and platforms that you remember growing up with. Chances are, They're out there, and runnable on your computer. If you have any old software titles, or systems you'd like to show & tell, _this_ is the meetup to bring them to.
- Getting Started with Clojure: Tooling and Basics
Who should you come to this meetup? Anyone interested in functional programming and learning how you can harness the power of first-class functions + immutable data objects should attend! The plan is to hangout and cover the pieces and parts required to get up and running with Clojure whether you're on a Mac, Windows machine, or a Linux box; and then cover the very basics of the language. If you'd like to be a little ahead of the curve you can check out these two links before the meetup: http://www.braveclojure.com/getting-started/ http://www.braveclojure.com/do-things/ Side note: We will be giving away a free JetBrains license as part of their sponsorship!
