  • Winamp

    2894 On Main

    $5.00

If you were a computer kid in the late 90's, chances are you used Winamp. For those unfamiliar, you're in for a treat. Even to this day, nothing is quite like what Winamp was and somehow, still is. Winamp is just an mp3 player... that kicked-off our digital libraries, powered rave culture and LAN parties, giving us an early glimpse and reach into digital sound design, digital DJ-ing and, most importantly, control over our soundtrack to frag to. Come join us for a visually stimulating, nostalgic social mixer to kick off a new series of meetups. This will be less of a presentation and more of a chatty + enjoy the music + standing thing. Light snacks and beverages will be available. If you're a new member, this is a great one to jump in on. Doors open at 7pm. We move things over to Sammy's at 9pm. Please note: If you are epileptic or are sensitive to intense audio/visual effects this may not be the best meetup to attend. Watch the meetup page for upcoming event announcements. NEW: This is a ticketed ($5), limited-seating event. You *must* RSVP and present ID at the door to attend.

  • Passwords

    2894 On Main

Just because they're secret doesn't mean we can't talk about them. Let's meet over the topic of passwords and everything related to keeping your things safe. Come join us for a quick meetup before the holidays so you'll better know how to explain Two-Factor Authentication to your relatives over Christmas dinner. Doors open at 7. Talk begins at 7:30. If you have a cool tool to show & tell, bring it. If you have a general announcement, job position or tech question, be prepared to present on it. We want to hear about all the fun stuff you've been up to--and the technical challenges you're looking for hints on. We're here to help and to have a great time. Welcome back to the Computer Club. Extra Credit: Someone bring a device to code on (platform and language of your choice) to help us decide which alcohol permit holding establishment on the square to go to first after the meetup. I'll explain later.

  • Text Editor Wars

    2894 On Main

One of my mentors told me that a Sysadmin's text editor is like a Marine's rifle (a tech twist on the Rifleman's Creed). How well you understand and perform in your text editor can make or break you in this industry. Whether you're a sysadmin, coder, designer, copywriter; your editor, and how you use it, can set you apart from the competition. Let's meet up and argue over which text editor is the one true editor *cough*vi*cough*. Come prepared to roast the editor you despise most. Let's have fun but also be open-minded. We'll go over what editors are out there, where they come from, their pro/cons, communities, and the plugin ecosystems that supercharge your workflow to make it your own. The goal is to learn more about the editor you already love, and to have a better idea of what else is out there that you might want to try out. We'll meet at 7:00pm at the cafe. We encourage you to bring your laptop to hack/work along with us. If you have a cool tool to show and tell--bring it. If you have a tech question, job opening, or current tech news you want to share, there will be some time before we begin a ~45min presentation. After meetups we typically grab drinks and pizza at a tavern, pub or saloon located on our historic village square. Yes. We have all three. Yes they're all awesome. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Drip coffee should be available. Admission is free. "United States and its partners, unbeknownst to the entire world, have converted the Internet, once heralded as an unprecedented tool of liberation and democratization, into an unprecedented zone of mass, indiscriminate surveillance."

  • Getting in (and out of) the Zone

    2894 On Main

We usually refer to 'The Zone' as being in a state of intense focus, usually in short bursts. No matter if it's programming, cooking, 3d modeling, painting, carpentry, designing, writing... you name it--you can experience the zone. This is both an amazing and tricky state to be in and tonight we'll have a chance to step through it and see it for what is it and how best to utilize it. Please do bring a cool tool to show and tell. There should be coffee available. The talk itself will be a shorter one. Encouraging the audience to jump in and have a round table-like discussion to hear some stories and questions on the topic. Stick around as we'll likely head over to the pub for some pizza and brews. See you there. \(•◡•)/
