What we're about

Do you go to bars or clubs just to dance because it's the only place to find a decent dance floor and a DJ?

Ecstatic Dance (http://ecstaticdance.org/) is a network of free form conscious dance gatherings for connection and community through movement and music. We are a community that is stoked about getting great exercise while liberating the mind and body; connecting with self and with community in a high-vibe, healthy space. We're excited about moving in organic and inventive ways that reflect how we feel, not how anyone else tells us to move. The journey music is high quality, recently released and features a blend of EDM, world rhythms, funk, groove, throwbacks and hip-hop.

The blossoming of these events in DC is inspired by the thriving free form, conscious dance communities that have permeated the west coast (http://ecstaticdance.org/w/) and other major cities throughout the world.

No shoes. No booze. No chit-chat on the dance floor. Embrace the opportunity to drop the persona, play like a child and experience the magic of movement.

Contact Improv Jam

Edgewood Arts Center

$13.00

Contact Improv is an engaging practice of creative spontaneity, trust, intimacy and presence in every moment. This movement practice involves two or more persons although you're not required to bring a partner as you will switch partners many times. This style of movement rewards releasing patterns in order to explore, play, and discover what aligns for you and in the flow of the moment. The key to connecting is in a basic agreement to mutually follow a point of contact -- fingertips, hips, shoulders, legs, etc. In exploring how to cooperate with someone in this simple agreement, we discover rich territory for communicating without words; exploring movement and play together; and surprising opportunities to learn more about coordination within our own selves. All are welcome. Be prepared for a wide range of activity, from solitary and meditative to rolling around on and out of the floor, with each other. We build a sweat; challenge the mind and body. 8-10pm --- Free form jam Guidance from Ken Manheimmer Dress to sweat! $13 at the door
